Position Summary:

Directly oversees all aspects of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center volunteer and membership programs from recruitment to retention. Works with the museum team to support IPCC mission by coordinating volunteer and docent efforts. Maintains membership information and implements special member events and opportunities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


Volunteer Program:

  • Oversees recruitment, training, placement, and scheduling of volunteer group.
  • Coordinates volunteer meetings, communication, educational opportunities, and specific museum training to ensure volunteers are adequately prepared to support the IPCC mission.
  • Oversees volunteer committees and special groups to ensure needs are met and actions support the overall strategic initiatives of IPCC.
  • Works directly with volunteer base to track volunteer hours and support needs
  • Maintains volunteer information including contact information, trainings, and preferences.
  • Establish rapport with volunteer group through meaningful actions and communication
  • Maintains volunteer handbook to ensure policies/procedures are accurate and supportive
  • Oversees volunteer recognition program including annual recognition event

Membership Program:

  • Develops and implements membership recruitment initiatives
  • Reviews membership categories, benefits, and structure on an on-going basis ensuring benefit to members and enhanced opportunities for the organization.
  • Coordinates and implements member only events/experiences on a routine basis
  • Collaborates with marketing department on the development of the member newsletter.

General:

  • Maintains communication and maintains a positive and professional work environment.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; three years membership and/or volunteer management experience; two years museum experience. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation. Native American preference will be given.


Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:

  • Knowledge of Pueblo, history, traditions, cultural values and contemporary life.
  • Supervisory/Management skills with ability to coordinate tasks, review projects, and provide feedback.
  • Exemplary public presentation skills with the intent of creating emotional and intellectual connections between the audience and mission of IPCC.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques and ability to respond to difficult inquiries while maintain positive demeanor.
  • Working knowledge of database management and administration with a focus on maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to be personable, responsive and courteous with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must be self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decision and judgments.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials as well as use data to compile and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evening and occasional weekends.
  • Skill in computer use and programs in a Windows environment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit and stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in an office/museum setting.
